If the butt is up, baby is in the right position. You may have a little pressure down low and a few mild "period like" cramps. You may also feel pains in your cervix area.

first let me say CONGRATULATIONS - motherhood is a rewarding experience that like no other and it will allow to experience every emotion imaginable. I don't think that the key is the baby knowing as much as it is your body knowing what to do and when to do it. Feeling the baby at the top of your stomach usually means that the baby is running out of room in there but your OBGYN should be able to help you out with that. What you may experience depending upon how far along you are is called lightening in which the baby actually drops a bit and descends into the pelvic area gearing up for birth - my understanding is that this can happen anywhere between 2-4 weeks prior to birth for first time mothers and more commonly right before the onset of labor in mothers that have previously delivered. What you may be experiencing is called Braxton Hicks contractions and they are sporadic and not consistent. Trust me when true labor hits you - you WILL definitely know it because they grow stronger and closer together. By the way I am the proud mother of 4 ages 19, 7, 3(on Sunday) & 4 months. There are some things you may experience after birth that are out of your control due to hormones mixed in with the lack of sleep due to the fierce demands of a newborn. Please stress the importance of having some help and support to your mate, it's gonna be EXTREMELY important to you and for you. You will need to spend a little time to yourself each day if possible to gather your bearings, you will need to get out of the house at least twice a week so you don't go stir crazy and if you are anal about the house being kept you will have to learn to accept that having baby is a major thing and you need to rest in order to recuperate and you'll have to let some things go or solicit the assistance of your mate(however if your is anything like mine GOOD LUCK). If you ever need to talk or be encouraged and have any questions feel free to email me through yahoo answers okay? Good luck and God bless you and the little one.

Babies usually turn head down a few weeks prior to labor, but they don't always. There are some signs you can look for to see if labor is drawing near, but it could still be a few days away even with these signs:
nesting urge- you might feel like you have to clean the entire house top to bottom
you might lose a pound
You could have looser bowels (sorry if that sounds gross)
You could feel a lightening- where the baby feels to have dropped way low into your pelvis, you can breathe a little better but baby feels like it's hanging between your knees
You might have mild contractions.
If you have any of those signs, it's possible you could start labor soon, but again, it's really hard to tell until labor has actually started.

I have four children, and they were all different. You will know when it's time, it's natural. There are lots of signs, and everybody is telling you about the "dropping of your stomache", this is true. You will also feel minor sharp pains in your vaginal area, and if your "mucus plug" comes out, that's a sure thing that the baby is coming soon and you need to go to your doc. Just rest alot and don't over do it right now. If you are within 2 to 3 weeks of your delivery date REST, REST,REST!!! You will be tired and exhausted once you have this baby. Take the time and read up on everything you can. Listen to the elderly, (grandparents, aunts)they can share alot of stories and info. PRAY ALOT!! Trust your instints. You are about to be blessed (and cursed it might seem sometimes) with this tiny little bundle of joy,tears,sweat,tears,love,tears.(HA-Ha) It will be O.K. Just breath and let life take over. I wish you all the best!

Well.. the baby is supposed to be in a downward position... like its feet are facing up and its head is facing down. Any other position would mean you would have to have a c section, most of the time. Usually your stomach drops too... meaning if you look in a mirror, it appears like your pregnant belly is lower than what it was before.

Well what could have happened with the baby is that she "lightened" or dropped into the pelvis. This means that she is in the correct position for delivery. The sharp pains could be one of two things. First of all it could be your pelvis could be stretching a bit to accomidate the baby's head or it could be early labour. If they start getting worse talk to your doctor!!!

Has your doctor been doing internals or anything? The dr can tell you if the baby is head down. There is no way to tell if labor is near though. Sorry.

It sounds like your baby is in the right position. With my pregnancy there was a great deal of mucus right before I went to the hospital my water broke. I had the feeling of wanting to push. And lower back pains

usually the baby does drop lower in preparation for birth, head down, but also you cervix should start to dilate..has your doctor said anything about that..babies do shift around though in the womb so it could be just that..my contractions kind of felt like severe cramps in my lower abdomen and lower back.

the baby wont know, your body will. talk to your ob or gyn or go to webmd.com and search the 3rd tri section for details on idenifying your labor contractions vs braxton hicks (false labor) so you can try to relax until then, b/c baby when it comes...theres no more rest for the next 18yrs:) hehehe youll LOVE being a mommy!
