It wasn't a thing it's a person. My mom just died of cancer and she was the most amazing person I have ever known. I'm not just saying this because she was my mom, she was completely selfless, giving, funny, understanding, supportive and loving. She was newly diagnosed with CA two weeks before Katrina hit. Her house was hit hardest of all the family's houses (we all live together on fifty acres in MS), she was without electricity in August for three weeks, no AC, no hot water, none of the amenities we have all grown accustomed to. Even though she was so sick, she was the one who had the best outlook on things, while my 24y/o son and his wife lay around whining because it was so hot and there was no electronic entertainment, she was busy going about cleaning and working around the house with dad. She was worried about other people in the community and was doing what she could to help them.
She was my greatest role model and my greatest friend, her loss has far and beyond been the hardest loss I have ever had.
