major prob...is a girl who is ALMOST 5'0, 108 lbs., and has 25% fat FAT for a 13 year old? my cousin is totally insecure!!!

Honey, no. It's all relative to height and weight. I am 5'6 and I weigh 128 lbs. I have 30% body fat. but I am not fat or obese. I have a small pouch on my stomach. I don't have big boobs or a huge a ss either. It just means that instead of being 108 lbs all muscle, 27 lbs out of the 108 is fat. The remaining 81 lbs is taken up by the weight of bones, organs, muscle, skin, hair, feces still in the body, stomach contents, etc. Your cousin has to put it all into perspective. Tell her not to freak out. If she wants to lose weight, I suggest that she does not drop below 95 lbs. Actually, if she is that worried, she should talk to her family doctor the next time she has a visit. He will be able to better educate her than I. She is not fat.

ok i really hope at 13 you understand sarcasm really well, all of those people calling you obese are just JOKING. you are definitely not fat in any way. you are a perfectly normal size, and you are not even close to being done growing!!! don't worry about a thing! you may be insecure but just get over it, if you honestly believe that you look good then you will see yourself better than if you criticize every little thing! there are way more important things than a 13 yr old thinking shes fat. don't become a statistic and be happy with the way God made you! why would you want to be a rail anyway? all guys like a girl with SOME meat on her bones, they all make fun of the skinny rail lookin girls and date the ones that look NORMAL! AND REMEMBER! THE GIRLS IN THE MAGAZINES ARE EITHER NATURALLY CURVE-LESS, OR AIRBRUSHED, TYRA BANKS SAID HER PICTURES ARE ALWAYS VERY AIRBRUSHED, and shes an experienced model. that crap is fake and you are getting sucked into it!

I'm only 5'3 and 120 lbs. I'm pretty skinny actually. I don't what % body fat I have, but if she is only 108 lbs...she has nothing to worry about. Did a doctor tell her the body fat % or did she try to figure it out for herself...if she did it herself she did it wrong (check out the first link I gave you below to figure out your BMI according to height & weight). Her BMI is only around 21 or 22 %, which is totally healthy. If her doctor told her that (which I don't know why a doctor would do that to a 13 year old) but unless he sounded worried about the #'s and suggested a diet or lifestyle change, there is nothing wrong physically. However, if she has an eating disorder try to get her some help.

Don't listen to those stupid guys that say it's obese. It's not. For a female the average body fat percentage is 23-27%. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable at 25% body fat, but it's not "fat" and most certainly not "obese".
The reason guys are saying what they are saying is because for them normal body fat is 11-14%. For a woman, if she was that low, could cause serious health problems if it's sustained for a long period of time (if it was closer to the 11%, not necessarily the 14%).
If you aren't comfortable in your own skin, take healthy steps to lower weight and body fat percentage. Good luck hon!

That is actually low for a girl. its usually about 30%. Her weight seems to indicate she has a lot of muscle which weighs more than fat. At 13, and 5'0, any size under a 12p is healthy. By her weight, height, and fat percentage, I would say she is a size 6p, well below the national average and well within the healthy zone.
Make sure to eat right and exercise regularly and all will be well.

Actually, you are in the "healthy" range for body mass index (BMI) for your age. Check out the website below. If you are using one of those body fat scales--don't--they are VERY inaccurate. Girls have a higher % body fat than boys. This is necessary for their health and for their bodies to mature. You sound like you are a good size for your age. Make sure you are eating healthy food and getting regular exercise so that your skin and hair stay healthy and you feel good. Don't worry about it at all. People here can be jerks.

Actually 25% body fat for a girl is pretty good. Female athletes try to keep at around 20%, so I don't know what people are talking about "obese" for...

im pretty much they same except im 5'0, 100 pounds and have like 20% body fat but im 14 and i feel really insecure about myself ive been trying to loose weight for a long time and everytime i ask someone they say im not fat so i dunt think ur fat at all

17 to 21.5% is ideal. 21.5 to 29% is average for under 20 for a female. So it is not fat, but a little lower would be desirable. At at 5'0" the desirable weight is about 105 pounds, depending on frame.

A woman can have up to 28% body fat and still be within the normal range (look it up!).
Please do not listen to those who are telling you the poor kid needs a diet; she's not only perfectly fine, but is also too young to get hung up on her body image. She hasn't even reached her full adult height...and, if she restricts the wrong nutrients, she might never be as tall as she might!
