Set it up on Dbase and then bring it over to Excel that way you can set it up fast and organize it as you please.

Get plenty of cd stacking cubes, arrange them accordingly, then place alphabetically by band/film titles.e.g.Abba - ZZ Top. Anything that starts with 'The' e.g. The Cult, The Who, The Smiths etc, file under C, W, S, etc.

I would definitely go by Genre, because most of the time, you know what kind of mood your in when you go to pick a movie, that way you just have to check that section which has a few DVDs with the same general feel rather than try to remember the movies by title.
