When today in reality Milwaukee, WI is the most segregated city in the Nation and the most segregated school system in the New York City schools and the largest and most prolific skin head group(s) is in Illinois. I'm not saying the South has not had its problems but at least be honest here as Atlanta is one of the most racially diverse city in the U.S. So when you start making assumptions about an area or a people at least do so honestly and back it up with the truth. Otherwise aren't you just being bigoted?

do you people ever really read a post? i never said the south did not have racism nor did i say the north was nothing but racist....reread do a web search on your facts then post....as for a woman being beaten in atlanta by the kkk, when...where are the facts if so then thats terrible but an awful lot of blacks are beaten and killed in northern, western and eastern states...the point being racisim is everywhere but to say a large group of citizens (southerners) are all racist or the states they live in is as bigoted as saying all blacks are evil. lazy gang bangers or disparaging any other group because of their ethnicity or color...i have lived all over this great nation, north, south, east and west and without a doubt the years i spent in and around the chicago area opened my eyes to racism, there was more there than any of the time i spent in the south....its was more subtle but more rampant and i think much more destructive...you believe what you want but the truth is the truth.

I think the flip-side of your question is even better. Why does everyone assume that people in the North are not racist?

I live in Alabama. No assumptions here but a fact that racism is still here and is still in the South. Not every black person can go anywhere in Georgia or any other southern state. Schools and colleges are bias toward blacks trying to getting the proper education. Police officers still stereo typing blacks in a luxury vehicle. Churches are still separated by race. Interracial dating law passed. Not hardly any blacks in state or local governments. May not be in Atlanta because some people call it the black mecca like they do Birmingham. I'm not a bigot but a educated godly realist.

I believe that in all parts of the world there are moderates and extremists, Racism is a form of extremism. To try and make it out like some people in the south aren't racist is ridicules, but at the same time there are plenty of people from there who aren't. I believe the whole world, in all sections of all country's needs to face it's racism and religious extremist tendencies and the US is being completely hypocritical in trying to install moderate societies and governments around the world when we have our own extremism at home to deal with. When the United States actually fixes it's own problems we can look outward to tell other country's what to do, but if we're just as messed up as they are what gives us the right? there are moderates extremists and racists everywhere including the south but up in the north as well, I'm in Massachusetts and I've seen plenty of hatred and bigotry here as well as moderation and tolerance.

It's ignorance of northeners that think they're intelligent, though they've never been anywhere South. Oh sure, let's use Hatred, Mississippi as and example for our racist South issue, and what does it look like? It looks like we actually know what we're talking about! But think about this, Atlanta is the South, Houston (the 4th largest city in America) is in the South, and with all those people, do you really think it's all white? Get a clue.

People need to find a delicate balance. History does play a part in the here and now, and to believe it doesn't is either being airheaded or lacking knowledge. TImes have changed, yet history DOES define things.

That assumption is a result of the south being mostly racist.
