i think you're just scared. it's no problem. as long as you don't panick, that's when it gets worse. at first stay near the edge of the pool so you have something to hold on to. and when you are ready you can swim away from it.

Usually, in length swimming, the water is a certain temperature (usually much like the rest of the pool). However, the deep end is colder than that of lengths....you might not be feeling that you have...*momentum*. It's only your mind, keep on swimming in the deep end and you'll eventually get use to it. But another thing to consider is that when the water feels colder, the water, doesn't seem to push against you as you swim, and also knowing that the bottom of the pool is far below you...your mind is just not use to it. Nonetheless, good luck with your swimming! =]

My daughter had the same problem. She could swim really well as long as the water wasn't over her head. She finally just bit the bullet and forced herself to do the same thing in the deep end. You just need to keep trying until you feel more comfortable in deep water. Maybe you could try private lessons.

are you like scared? there is nothing to worry about. im like terrified of dark or deep water but in a pool you can see everything so there is nothing to worry about. if thats not the case and you arent scared of the water and you just cant swim there....then you may have the technique down but you just cant swim yet.....=/

if you can swim in shallow water , you can swim even BETTER in deep water. WHY? because deep water helps your body float better. the first time i jumped into deep water, i was forced by my coach and i was scared too but i just swim like how i normally swim and i did okay. i was crooked and stuff , but he let me swim there from then on and now, im on the swim team. just relax. if you get tired, just hold on to the lane lines.

just stick to the sides until you feel comfortable to venture out. learning to tread water helps too.
