Consider those activists who live for a cause and have nothing else but their life to give. They do not blow themselves up and take other lives and they face death silently for us to think.
Do you think they should be considered martyrs or you think they'll go to hell for somehow committing suicide?
There are many of them held captive all around the world. Here's a true story: http://www.payvand.com/news/06/aug/1020.html

Generally, I think they're a fool. They face death silently for the publicity and because they're mad at something, kind of like a toddler temper tantrum. They don't make people think. Most people don't even know these people are on a hunger strike and most who do know, don't care. Let's see, Saddam, Susan Serandon.....Like I said, Who cares?

I don't think martyr....but I also don't consider it suicide...Suicide is thoughtless and a moment of weakness....Martyr is a cause that you die for but die fighting for, not starving for......I always think of martyrs as more strong and hellraisers....not sitting around being hungry. It's not suicide or martyr....I think it was hunger...I only say this because I know me...and I would have sustained every bit of energy I could consume and killed one of the mothers.....in that situation, please don't die peacefully....at least take one of the enemy with you.

No I don't think they are martyrs. I think they are people who committed suicide and that is a sin. If they want to starve themselves that is there problem. There are plenty of hungry people in this world who would gladly have their food.

1) Whether they are a "martyr" depends on the validity of their cause and their following. If they have no "followers" no one will call them a "martyr".

2) Whether they go to "hell" depends on whom they have trusted in for their afterlife "accommodations".*
