Boring is the first thing that comes to mind. After boring, several strange concepts are juxtaposed to fuel a moral debate.

First, can you imagine importing a woman you've never met to be your wife? Worse, can you imagine being a woman and allowing yourself to be imported under the watchful eye of your impressionable child?

Second, infidelity is always bothersome. No one wins and usually at least three people are left hurt and violated. In this case, the child is probably the most hurt and yet the least responsible for the tragedies in the story.

I recall having other uncomfortable feelings after seeing the movie, yet it's been so long I don't recall all the reasons why. For instance, I'm still bothered by the scene when the husband cuts off her fingers. Or the end, when she is saved from drowning by some fluke; I didn't have enough sympathy for the character to care if she was saved or not. If she had to drown to end the story then I would have been happy to accept that as her fate.

I didn't like the movie at the time. I am still haunted by many of the concepts and scenes. However, because I saw it so long ago one could argue that the impression it left was lasting and therefore a good film. Although, I'll never recommend it to anyone.

It was good..well except for Harvey Keitel getting naked, I could have done without that.... and I must say, I enjoyed NOT hearing Holly Hunter's southern Texan accent too.

I didn't get it. I found it depressing and weird. It's been years since I saw it and perhaps I would get something more from seeing it again, but the I was repelled by the characters, the nudity(Harvey Keitel, yuk) and the dark, obsessive nature of the movie.

It was pretty entertaining. It's just a bummer she got her finger chopped off... Her silver replacement looked nice though.

Just wondering... if this is your favorite movie... what does this tell about you....
