Buy a humane trap and put cheese in it, in the main room where the hamster was kept. My hamster ended up in the cavity walls, and cheese was the only thing she responded to!

We lost a pregnant female, too. We have never had mice, but there are poop trails in one of kitchen drawers now. I don't know if it is her or not, so I'm afraid to set a mouse trap. Poops dries really fast and hard. It may not be old, but may be your hamsters.

Check the bottom of refrigerators and freezer.. They will hid out there. Also put fresh food in the cage, leave door open and leave the cage in a low area.

Look in the heating/AC vents. Also look under and inside the rocking chair (if you have one). It could have gotten in there and gotten squished when someone sat down and rocked in it. That's what happened to my Grandmother's bird.
