Thank you for your answers but maybe I should have asked what is a henley instead. I've heard of thermal henleys but I was wondering if they are considered sweaters.

Do you mean thermal underwear? That's a long-sleeved shirt or pants (like pyjamas) that you wear beneath other clothing. It's generally made of two layers of fabric, the inner layer of air is what retains your body heat.

A sweater isn't thermal on its own, but with a long-sleeved shirt beneath, you will be more than twice as warm as with only one or the other. The warmest sweaters are wool, coldest are synthetic.

Hope I came close to the answer you're looking for...

Well a thermal is like a "long john" if you know what that is. It is not a sweater and is usually worn under clothing for extra warmth. It is not very thick by is warm when worn under the clothing. Usually used as Pajama's or hunting (at least where I'm from)

Thermals are usually considered when you play winter sports...
and as far as it being a sweater...
I think you're still going to be cold.
When people play sports, it keeps them warm.

they have thermal underwear....which consists of pants and a shirt...they are normally worn under your clothes to keep you warm in the winter...they are not thick, so i wouldn't consider the shirt a sweater...
