More than likely they are Braxton Hicks. If they are consistent and start getting closer together I would call my Dr.

Contractions make your entire belly very tight. Sometimes you can't breathe or talk. If your contractions are timeable, they are real contractions. If they go away by lying down and drinking water, they are Braxton hicks Contractions. Your baby could also be changing positions.

If you're almost to term, time your contractions. Real contractions come at regular intervals, both increasing in length and decreasing in time between them. If your pain comes with no certain pattern to it it's probably false labor.
You can always call your doctor or labor and delivery if you're not sure.
