legal department of an engineering firm. YOu would make more than regular engineers & lawyers. You would draft & review contracts (government or private), assist with arranging financing, etc

Personally, I feel it will take at least 6 years of university schooling. And it is quite a strange combination. But you can be a lawyer that specialises in engineering dispute cases. Or you can advise engineering firms on business laws.
I feel business and law go better together. But it is up to your interest. You may like to see a university professor in law to advise you.

Interesting combination of professions you have chosen.
Patent law would be the obvious type of work for you, and there is demand for that sort of thing.
