As a chemistry Tutor at a college I can give you the hint that it is always helpful to know the abbreviation for the elements, measurements and any other abbreviations you can come up with especially if you don't want to write a whole lot or you are not that fast. Also if the notes are not enough find a tutor some school provide them for free and those are usually in contact with the teachers so they know where you are at. If you are in High School a private tutor might help.

Hope this helps a bit

don't focus on getting notes, you'll miss the information you're writing down. this may not make sense and you might be thinking that of course you know what you're writing, but it is still true. Don't focus on the words, letters, terms whatever. Don't be so worried what book terms to use that you become a simple transcriber. It will end up looking transcribed. Focus on what it is you're taking notes on--i.e. the concepts. Learn them first. Fully understand them first. Then write about the topic in terms you understand as if you were going to teach someone who doesn't. Haven't you ever found yourself asking why didn't the author of the book simply state it that way instead.

I hardly took any notes in Chemistry. I spent some time at the Chemistry tutoring lab that was free and it supplemented my learning. I got an A, so it was awesome (5 credits).
