community service, leadership positions, high GPA, strenuous course load, make sure you take mainly advanced and honors courses. Also invest a lot of time on your college applications and essays, try to stand out from the rest! good luck!

Let me tell ya, I had one or two extracurriculars, no community service, no leadership positions, I took one Honors course in high school and never took any AP courses. I applied to about 8 different colleges, both in and out of state, hoping some would accept me, and I was accepted by each and every one of them. I had a high GPA, 3.8 or something like that, was in the top 10% of my class, and could write. A lot of colleges will require essays with the applications, so you need to learn how to write well, and write the kind of essays that they want. Writing is the most important thing you will learn in high school. GPA is also important, but SAT and ACT scores are critical. Take both, even if the college you want to go to only requires one, because if you score well it can never hurt to bring it up. Also, make sure you do well on both of them, study as much as you can and retake them if you have to, until you have a score you're happy with, and you'll get in wherever you want to go.

I have a lot of college advise to give. If only I can start all over.
To 'get into school you want' have all these things such as (1) Good Gpa unless your going to a tough college anything above 3.0 is good. (2) Extracurricular activities (3) Know what kind of school you want to go to (class size, people, enviornment, teachers).
I would say go to some forums for rising college students. Ask good questions there.
All the above is important BUT you gotta know what you want to do in college. You DO NOT have to have your major set coming into college it takes about 2 years to finish all the General education requirements for all colleges so take those. Learn more about yourself. Do some shadowing. Join some clubs. Get down and dirty. Always, always plan 2 semesters ahead and be clear on what your goals are. Always ask counselors for help. If grades drop get help soon and never despair. Don't let those g/f or b/f, parties, friends distract you get the stuff done.......So be clear about what you want to do research many fields of study. Dont be like me going to college for 5 years...I am trying to go to pharamacy...Okay email me for more advice. Hope that helps.

Find some good websites and books to help you out with your question. A really good website is www.fastweb.com everyone always says its only for scholarships but they have a lot of articles that tell you everything you need, from the grades in school to volunteering to the SATs. It is completely free too.

extracurriculars. you really need to be able to show the colleges what you are doing when you aren't in school. and make sure that it is something they are going to like. i suggest volunteering for habitat for humanity. they love that. and i would also suggest working on your spelling because you are going to be filling out many applications. its not insure its ensure*
