CAUSES:

The primary cause of both is a completely free market, competition, and one-time buy-in costs:

A fishing boat costs money. Mooring it costs money. If there's plenty of fish in the ocean, lots of people are going to buy fishing boats. They're going to want to pay those boat loans back. And fishing boats aren't much use for anything else. The same goes for the lumber industry, only we're talking about chainsaws, specially equipped tree-movers, and planing devices to cut the planks.

By the time negative consequences are observed, it's usually too late... businessmen are committed to continue, and governments are committed to prevent them from starving.

EFFECTS:

Clear-cutting areas has been demonstrated to produce low quality soil, massive erosion, and consequent lowering of water quality. In some areas (rainforests), the forest doesn't recover slowly... it doesn't recover at all.

Overfishing usually eliminates parts of a normal biosphere. Normal prey to the eliminated species run amok, and predators on the eliminated species may disappear entirely as well. Is some particularly fragile ecospheres, total chaos pretty much ensues.

AFFECTS ON HUMAN SOCIETY:

Well, it would be silly to overlook the temporary boost in resources these industries often provide. It is unfortunate that in many case it has been all TOO temporary, resulting in large-scale unemployment when the industry collapses.

There are countries in the world where depleted fishing grounds show almost no signs of recovery. Tunisia is a good example - fishing used to be a major industry there, but hadn't for fifty years because there are simply no fish worth catching any longer.

In some cases widespread effects are only now beginning to appear. A worldwide growth of toxic algae has been observed in recent scientific magazines, one of the theorized causes being the depletion of the small fish that usually consume it and the wetlands aboveground that normally filter out the waste these algae feed upon themselves.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS:

Many lumber companies who are capable of owning large-scale forest resources themselves have realized that it is far wiser to manage their lands well rather than put themselves out of business. But even rotated timber-lands tend to produce inferior wood to old-growth forests - consumers may have to accustom themselves to lower-grade products as well.

Some efforts are underway to do the same with oceanic resources, by raising all the fish in cages at sea instead of catching them. While this is unlikely to have direct negative effects on the ocean or its biospheres, there may be some indirect effects from spilled food or more fish waste that need to be worked out.

And, of course, one solution is simply to use different resources for the same purposes. Adobe homes made of sand instead of wood are on the comeback in some areas. Some plastics may last longer and be more repairable than wood for other purposes. And who knows what genetic engineering might provide in the future?

Deforestation is caused by a large demand for lumber and more living spaces. We use quite a lot of lumber to build stores, houses, and many other things. The amount of available oxygen when compared to carbon dioxide is less, therefore causing higher temperatures. Lack of trees for shade also heats up the earth more. It's necessary to have space for housing, which is a positive impact on us, but its negative impact is the fact that air quality is going down. Some possible solutions are to plant more trees at a greater amount than the number brought down. That is, for each tree pulled down, at least three are replanted. Also, instead of cutting them down to make room, we could build around them.

Over-fishing is also caused by a need for food. It has the effect of messing up the eco-system in the water-spots where fish are harvested. It's positive because fish is healthy for us, and it is a good food source. But it's negative because other animals that rely on fish for food aren't getting their food. Plus, as I have said before it damages a delicate balance which will affect humans eventually. A good idea would be to have varied fishing grounds to allow time for fish to regenerate numbers. After all, it's a BIG ocean and a BIG world. There's plenty of fish, if we change fishing grounds often.

think about it. You're essentially trashing the oceans' marine life. So think no fish and sea food to consume, no seaweed etc. If we destroy all the plankton and plant life in the oceans then oxygen, varbon and water cycles are effected. Local weather esp of coastal areas would be different due to the change in ocean water temp. The oceans produce much oxygen than the amazon rain forest. Ad that also means there'd be no pearls, corals reef would go, so coastal areas are more vulnerable to the ocean and its tides etc etc etc

neg impacts well there's be no fishing industry. ditto sea food restaurants, weather would change, so the earth would become hotter

solutions is easy manage the oceans' resources with intelligence and foresight

Deforestation and Over - fishing of oceans?
- causes; Man greedy for more !
- effects; Green house gases,Marine life deplession.
- positive negative affects of human society; More resources and wealth at a very high cost.
- possible solutions; More rainforests saved, restrictions on fishing. Drastic soulution; Outlaw humans from destroying everything in their path!!!

The amount of available oxygen in the world is down about 2% lower than it was 50 years ago. Contrary to popular beliefe, it is the plankton and ocianic plants that produce the most oxygen, and with the pollution levels rising daily in ocianic waters, the plankton is being destroyed, which is causing a proportional loss of produced oxygen from this source. I hope this helps.

deforestation can be caused by the need of lumber and cleared lands for building and farming. effects can be species of trees die out without any places to grow. animals die out or become endanger without places for homes and less trees to produce oxygen. pos and neg aspects are economies flourish and trading increases because there more treated wood and areas to farm and sell. after the deforestation there won't be enough wood to to sell because plant won't be able to grow back. solutions are a new tree of the same species must be planted for every that is cut down. areas with endanger plants or animals are off limits to lumber companies.
causes of over fishing can be fishes are caught for food and profit. effects can be spices becoming endangered of dieing out. underwater habitats disturbed or changed. pos neg aspects can be edible fish sources lessen and less food sources lessen. trade increases and help economy. solutions can be to allow time for fish to breed before fishing in the same area and not fishing for endangered species.

We have more and more people going after fewer resources. Maybe we should all become vegetarian. If we cut down trees, we need to plant more of the same type of tree.
