The minimum wage law should be abolished. Everyone's wages will go up. Think about it. Everyone will be competing for the highest wages; employers will lose employees to competitors because they are willing to pay the same person more money for the same job. The way it is now, is just like welfare. People slough off and still get paid. They get fired, go to the next job, and still get paid the same. It's the oldest trick in the book: socialism.

Yes it should be raised and it should be a stand alone bill. As it is the bill put out by the Republicans also has the Paris Hilton Tax Cut....ooops....I mean Estate Tax Cut on it. So it gives minimum wage earners a couple of dollars and the wealthiest of the wealthy(7,500 families) millions. It also overturns some states minimum wage laws. As for minimum wage being an entry level wage, 80% of the people on it are adults. Of that 54% are full time and 34% are part time. As for raising the minimum wage and inflation going up, if you go back to all the time that it was raised, you'd see that inflation didn't go up. What went up was the economy, people had more disposable income to spend on more then just the basics. Raising it also lessens the burden on social services again as people have more money. And in states that have a higher minimum wage, they have had faster small business and retail job growth.

Yes, absolutely. The price of everything has gone up. The price of gas has tripled. Health care is outrageous. Clinton raised it twice during his 2 terms in office. The Republicans have no interest in raising the minimum wage. The only reason they even brought it back up was out of fear since it is an election year. But they are crafty, they managed to add a reduction/elimination of the estate tax for the wealthiest Americans (the multimillionaires) to the bill that would raise the minimum wage. They do this so that Democrats/supporters of a minimum wage raise will have to give away 300 billion to the richest Americans plunging us further into debt/fiscal irresponsibility if they vote yes, and if they vote no it looks like they are simply voting against the minimum wage increase. People who work full time to support themselves and their families end up way below the poverty line. Watch the show 30 days, the first episode of season 1 with Morgan Spurlock (the Supersize Me guy) It's an excellent episode that shows just how tough it really is.

No this will just make everything else go higher. Just think if you make 9 or 10 bucks an hour(average wage) you will only be a couple dollars more than the new minimum wage. And what about fast food joints where some kid is working that screws up everything, why should he/she get 7.50 an hour? If all wages went up and the economy was in good shape then maybe raise it to 6.00 and hr. But not a 2 dollar in crease.

Yes, I believe that for most industries the Federal Minimum Wage should be increased to be a liveable wage. Still, this increase will barely be enough to keep a roof and food on the table for a family of four. It is still Not enough to have a savings a or college account.
Unfortunately, the people who make and past laws do not have these concerns. They receive salaries about the average person. They have good medical benefits. They receive many feebies, etc.
When will the ordinary citizen wake up and stop putting rich folks into office. Also, if they are not rich when they are elected, you better believe they will be rich before leaving office. We need to elect people who understand the concern and struggles of the everyday person and family.

That is a hard question to answer because wen you raise minimum wage, then the price of everything else goes up too. They raise rent & food costs & anything else they can think of, so in the end, you are still in the same situtation as before. All of the jobs with low paying employees will have to raise the price of thier services to meet te new wage standards.

no, I don't think it should be raised. All that means is that your monthly bills will go higher because they know you now make more. So you didn't get anywhere. The only reason the minimum wage is being talked about in because moderate republicans in certain states are worried about losing their elections this year. Otherwise it wouldn't be an issue. It shouldn't be. If companies paid you decent wages to keep good honest hardworking people in their jobs this wouldn't be an issue. If companies had good business models so they were not trying to cheat everyone, we would be happy. So to get around that go to college and earn your degree so you can be the one making good money and paying your employees good wages and you would keep good employees. I realize this issue is more complicated than that, but it is my opinion.

No. It won't affect me either way, but many minimum wage kids will be 'furloughed' if the wage is raised. As always happens when they raise it.

Absoultely...who can live off of $5.15 an hour...oh excuse me $5.25. Then maybe some of the single parents with little to no education who are working these jobs can get off of welfare. Or the teens trying to make it through college can pay some of their own bills without relying on their parents.
Hey guys....fyi...the price of everything else HAS already gone up!!

Yes, it's been too low for way too long. Also, they should have a Federal Maximum Wage, to stop CEO's of corporations to keep overpaying themselves.
