it's not that any require 512mb of video ram, but a game with a 512mb GPU will preform better than with a 128 or 256mb GPU.

until now there r 3 games that can utilize 512 MB of vedio memory and all the 3 games r based on the same graphic engine
1-Doom3
2-Quake4
3-prey
but that doesn't mean that they don't run on lesser memory graphic card
they just use the 512MB to display the game texture without any compression, there will be no preformance difference if u play the game on two card with the same specification with just the memory diff.

Quake 4, Oblivion, Doom 3 -- any of the crazy high end FPS's

Quake 4 actualyl has a mode that requires 1000 mb of video memory!!!

this can only be accomplished with 2 videocards connected to a crossfire mobo

Oblivion is prolly th best looking game in the world presently - you can even get addons that make it look more incredible than it's initial jaw-dropping state

Quake 4 is super linear, and kinda hard - not in the fun challenging way, inthe how do you kill 8 people with 3 shotgun shells?

none NEED it yet....but everygame can use the extra memory to make the game run smoother. if you are looking to buy a new graphics card remember that while memory helps, the quality of the graphics card also is important. some graphics cards with 512 MB memeory that are bad quality work worse than one that have less memory but are better made.

No game so far requires that amount of power. Its just that a 512 mb will perform far better. I have ATI Radeon X 1600 512MB and it rocks for power-demanding games like Doom 3 and Quake 4.

A lot of games require a 256 mb graphics cards, but it is a lot better if you have a bigger one so your game can run faster! Try playing like Elder Scrolls Oblivion IV, great game, greater graphics!
