Isn't it as simple as taking the old one down and putting up a new one?

I really didn't know what category to put this under.

Yes, I guess there wasn't a category for jingoistic chauvinism.

It's great that some people fly flags, but that certainly doesn't make you a patriot 100%. Patriots:
* vote in every election
* volunteer to make their communities and country better
* work for equality, justice, peace and tolerance for all Americans

I also agree that it does show some disrespect to fly a tattered flag, especially when they are so cheap these days - especially the ones made in China, Malaysia and Taiwan. But the state of someone's flag has nothing to do with their patriotism.

I believe that I am patriotic. I think that flying either a tattered or faded American flag shows that the person that is flying the flag is lazy but patriotic. I guess that it is better than flying no flag or burning the American flag, but they should take better care of it.

I feel ashamed. The flag should be flown only on the good days and should be taken down before dark. If it gets torn or tattered it should be disposed of respectfully and a new one should be purchased.

I would go in and complain, in fact I have. If you want to fly the flag of a public building or on any public land, then show a little respect.
A private home is another matter, many times the flag displayed once covered a soldiers coffin.

I find that disrespectful. I think a tattered flag should be replaced and disposed of properly.

I also feel ashamed. I once drove by a school that didn't have their flag on the pole correctly. I was so upset. It is disrespectful to our country, and to the people that serve our country for that flag.

It should be replaced or do not display it.
Look at the flag on cars, when I see them flapping on the freeway, I can hear the flag screaming 'HELP'.
