Do some market research first. There may be a good reason why there are a billion coffee shops and no tea shops.

Researching in England may be beneficial... they're tea lovers and very particular about how their tea is made.

The real answer to your question is to find out if there is a market for your product. There is some general research that you need to conduct. Assuming that your business will be in the United States, it would be good information to know what the consumption of Tea is vs. Coffee as one bench mark. Another would be to find out which areas in the country drink the most Tea. I would suspect that you will find that the older the age demographic, the more likely that tea would be consumed. It may also be related to climate - although it is a guess.

Do your homework - don't just open a tea shop on the off chance that the people in your area may like it

Well I would go there. I like the idea of something unique, quaint, yet fun. Environment is important and so is variety. In Colorado there were several fantastic tea shops, including High Tea (very elegant) at Brown Palace. I have seen everything from Themed tea parties to elegant to fun and contemporary.. Pick your model, but you have an interesting notion.

Remember that the tea itself is jsut one part of the equation. Do you homework and find out the demographics of the average tea drinker. Make sure that your store caters to the other interests of this demographic so that you create a favorable environment for them. i.e. don't have pictures of sport stars and purchase big screens that show the NFL if the demographics point to 70 year old ladies that use tea time to socialize.
