I need to replace the calipers, but don't understand how to take the shoes off.

go to the repair info section after selecting your vehicle from their menu.

It'll get you going in the right direction.

If they are drum brakes, you'll have to unhook a lot of springs and such. Do them one at a time. that way if you forget how a spring or something goes, you can always use the other brake assembly as a reference.

Well, for one, the rear doesn't have calipers. Is called a drum brake setup. You will need a special brake spring tool to remove the springs, thus allowing the shoes to be taken off. Just a note, do one side at a time, so that you have the other side as a reference. You'll see what I mean if you don't and its dark outside.
