I have been to the Grand Canyon many times. People go there to see the vistas of the Canyon from different angels. They go hiking on the many canyon trails. You can actually hike or ride a mule down the Canyon trail either to the Indian Garden, which is half way down, or all the way to the river. Its a strenuous hike, especially coming back up. You can take a mule ride which goes down and back up the same day or another which will go to Phanthom Ranch, a group of cabins, at the bottom and spend the night, I did that many years ago. Its a great trip but you have to reserve it six months or more in advance.

When you go to the Canyon you park your car and take a free tram which stops at the many overlooks along the West Rim Drive. The schuttle runs every 15 minutes so you can get off for a look and another will be along soon.

Some people camp out at the Canyon in campers and/or in tents. The Canyon area has a place to shower and wash clothes. and a cafeteria and well as several hotels and restaurants. Do go to the Arizona Room for a streak dinner, it has a beautiful view of the canyon at sunset. If you are going to be there at night, take a flashlight as it gets mighty dark there.

I was in the Grand Canyon this past May. It depends on what part of the canyon you are staying. We were at the South Rim. There are a lot of places for hiking, you can ride the donkeys down, and as far as seeing things, it is one of the most amazing natural wonders you can ever experience...but don't feed the squirrels :)

I've been twice, The first time it sucked cause we went during the summer and it was mobbed. Never saw so many Japanese and Germans in my life. The 2nd time was off season when it was less crowded. Much more enjoyable and we could actually get a room at the lodge without a reservation.
Unless you plan to hike down into the canyon or take a helo ride theres really not too much to do except stand on the rim and enjoy the view.

If you are in Vegas, plan a overnight stay at North Rim ... Take 15 freeway north to St. George, UT and take Hwy 389 and catch Hwy 89 and go south to Hwy 67 ... Its beautiful ... I don't know how long it takes to get there

It took me 2 1/2 hours from Zion National Park to Grand Canyon North Rim

If you would like an unforgetable trip to the Grand Canyon, visit Navajo, Havasu, and Mooney Falls. It's a few mile hike, horseback ride, or chopper ride (about 10) , but well worth it. HAVE A GREAT TIME!!

Drive South from Flagstaff, Arizona. The road is level, the country flat till all of a sudden the earth opens up and you have arrived at the canyon. It is really awesome.
