What was the Triumph of Solidarity?

In my opinion the triumph of solidarity, a labor union headed by Lech Walesa in Poland is that it helped to bring about change in the political system in the country of Poland from one of dictatorial communism to a form of democratic capitalism. That the political and economic direction of a country could be influenced, let alone changed, by a small group of shipyard workers who were against the government setting wages at an almost poverty level, and forcing them to work in dangerous and deplorable conditions is astonishing. It demonstrates that if people have the resolve, are willing to sacrifice to further the ideals behind their resolve, that change is possible. America could be a very different place if we, as citizens, were ever to act together instead of being self absorbed individualists.
