We built our home two years ago and it has a gas fireplace. We would like to replace it with a wood burning?

What kind of exhaust does it have? It it a 6 -or 8 inch diameter chimney (steel or whatnot) that goes all the way up? If so, it should be fine.

Yes you can change it with out cleaning the chimney. I'm a mason contractor here in Kansas city. I build fire places.
All you need to do is put a cap on the gas line, and remove the gas logs. There is nothing different about the two fir places, other than the gas line going into it.
