Ha! "$40,000 to $60,000 annually" Right...and unicorns and the Easter Bunny are out on my front yard! LOL

An EMT-Basic makes $8 to $10 a hour to start, sometimes even less depending on where you work. In the great state of Alabama, they start at $8 an hour. In Alaska, they tend to start at $10 a hour.

An EMT-Paramedic starts between $10 to $14 where I work. Other states usually pay more...in Alaska, I would start at $15 a hour or so. $15 a hour is usually the norm, from what I gather.

Honestly, for the amount of responsibility and the back breaking work, the pay is just not enough. Thank goodness, I (and most medics) didn't get into it for the money!

Hope this helps!

RE:
how much money does an EMT Make On Average?

Well I'm not going to cloud your head with national statistics or anything like that, I'll just give you the straight poop on my area (southwest Virginia).

EMT-Bs can expect anywhere from $9 to $13 an hour with the most prominent company offering $12/hr to new EMTs.

EMT-Ps can expect anywhere from $13 to $17 an hour with that same company offering $16/hr to new NREMT-Ps.

These rates are for standard field providers not managers or supervisors which make considerably more.

In Albuquerque, New Mexico the average salary for an EMT is about $25,000 a year.

You can enter your location and figure that out on your own....

It depends on where you work. I have seen them make as little at $9-10 and as much as $18-22/hour. If you work in a smaller city you will make alot less then if you go to a big city.
