America is represented by the states in the heart of North America. This image does not include Alaska and Hawaii regardless of your coloring. Then in their minds eye is the picture of the president and his nationality to represent the nation as a whole. It's funny when I spoke with people from different countries about politics and they say things like "Why don't the Americans ...". Its just like a script from the movies of yester-years. I am a minority and so far haven't been treated like dirt so I can't comment on that (fingers crossed that I'll never have an experience like that).

I am not an American...but I don't feel that only white or black americans represent your country....I think that every culture has minorities that still add to the sum total of that country....I'm Canadian, which may make me sound closer to American than some other countries...but I appreciate the different cultures that we have here...I'm sure most americans feel the same way about the US.

You don't need to tell me, I believe you and understand.
No, I don't feel good about this, as a white man and as an American who believes in equality and God.
It seems that the foreigners that you spoke with are only educated with a little information. They are basing fact with a little info and a lot of guessing. It is like they are "pre-judging" you before they really know who you are and what our country consists of before talking. You and I are the same and are both loved by God. That is the one thing that we have going for us that foreigners with little information cannot take away.
Don't go by what TV says about anyone or anything. Follow your heart and follow God. You won't be disappointed with either!
God bless you always

I've never really noticed anything like that. I've been to other countries and people know me as a white American and they treat me like trash too, even when the majority of those countries were white. Who cares about race anyways? If you are an American, then be proud of it and shove it in those foreigners faces that you are better than them. Maybe they'll go back to their countries and change people's misconceptions.

This thought has never occurred to me. I wonder what kind of foreigners you're talking to.... I have a friend from Africa (she's black) and when she went home to Gana, all of her friends came over to see her because they assumed that, because she is now an American, she has a lot of money and is an "owner" of things. What do you mean when you say "us of another kind."?
If anyone makes you feel like trash, it is because you let them make you feel that way. You're and american and you should be proud!

I have a mixed heritage. My sisters are fair and I'm dark. My daughter is also fair. -People point blank ask me what I'm doing with them and how do I fit in (or insinuate it).
I lived in Ireland for awhile and people knew that I was American but were obsessed with knowing my ethnicity.
If you are white, you don't understand what I have written.
I am frustrated. I think I will make up a t-shirt breaking down my heritage and put at the bottom, f#ck off.

well, as a white person, I wish I had a decent whitem person representing myself to the world instead of misguided millionaires with superegos and world conquest goals. The world conquest wouldn't even be so bad if their goal was to create a cool liberated place but instead an oppressive, elitist system where our freedoms are forfeit appeals to me as much as eating a bowl of raw sewage, which would probably be the main menu choices for the poor and middle class if these neo-cons have their way.

when people think of americans, yes, they do mostly think of white people, but thats the sad truth about our culture. when americans think of people from japan, they think of asian people even though there are others living there. just like when people think of a country in africa, they think of black people, when there are others living there. its a stereotype. black people in america are no different from any other people, and they shouldnt feel like a minority. you are kind of making people outside of america sound racist...which they arent...i think that most of the racist population of the world is living IN america...i guarantee there will be at least 1 racist response on this site. but in general, i think that when people think of countries, they should think of the people, not the race
