There are many sphinxes around the world but if you mean the famous one at Giza, it is actually the face of Khafre, the sucessor of Khufu.

Venomfx is right: Khufu or Kephren (same guy, different name), the same man who had the Great Pyramid built.

Did you know, we even know the name of the Great Pyramid's architect...? His name was Imhotep, and he was truly a genius!
