Windows open a tad - ac off . . . best gas economy

It depends on the speed you are traveling, up to 45 miles an hour it is better with ac off and windows down above this the it is actually better to have the ac on because of the drag produced by the air coming into the car.

in town it is more efficient to have the windows down. on the highway use the AC the drag created by having the windows open eats way more gas

They are similar. Ac on is better though. Your gas mileage majorly decreases with windows down. If your A/c is working properly and well maintained you would be better off to use it. the difference between the 2 is probably less than 1 mpg. And Ac feels so much better than hot air blowing in!

The AC on. Open windows create air drag. So even though the milage goes down with the AC, you'll get better mileage with the windows rolled up.

They discovered that if driving below 45mph, it is more gas efficient to go with the windows. Anything above that, use the AC---it will reduce drag on the car.

OH NO AC wastes more gas then the windows a whole lot but i rather have the AC on.Its been hot for a couple weeks.

Actually they did this on Mythbusters. There is relatively no difference. The only minor difference is the drag created by the open windows, which has almost nil effect on fuel efficiency. A/C does NOTHING for gas... the power from it comes from the alternator.

Windows open is better. I know the air conditioner uses energy from the engine because we crossed the Mohave Desert on July 5th a few years back in a fully loaded U-Haul truck. It had an air conditioner, but when we used it, there was no power left to pull the truck up even the slightest grade. It was windows open and lots of ice water.

You burn gas with the AC,but if it's a nice day let the windows down it's cheaper
