Please don't judge me too harshly but I live in Corsicana, Texas which is known as the fruitcake capitol of the world. Collins Street Bakery makes fruitcakes which are shipped all over the world. Corsicana is in Navarro County as well, which is the first place in Texas where oil was discovered. There was an old time country and western singer from here as well...Lefty Frizell (sp?). Other than that it's a pretty crappy little town of about 20,000 souls. There's not much to do here. My Sweetheart is from England and she has come here twice to spend some time with me and we always had a difficult time finding things to do other than the obvious, but you can't do that 24/7...we went bowling a couple of times, ate at nearly every restaurant in town, shared bottles of wine, watched baseball on the telly, spent time with my folks so everyone could get to know her, and we saw a wide screen documentary in the planetarium over at the Jr. College. We stayed at a little motel here in town where a young man killed himself. We were too late to save him but we faced it together as a team. I guess it's not just about where you are and what it's famous for but who you are with. I am looking forward to visiting her in Northamtonshire by the first part of September, and even though the town she lives in is pretty small it'll be a really big deal for me because I get to spend time with her and I have never ben outside of the United States. We don't get nearly as much vacation time as people do in the UK so I have just stayed in the continental US. Well, I think I've answered quite a bit and it's not very impressive but I am excited about coming to England for a while. Take care and thanks for listening.

I now live in Motherwell, Lanarkshire and it had a population of 30,311 at the 2001 census. About 8 miles to Glasgow and 35 to Edinburgh and with good access to the motorways for commuters. It is home to Ravenscraig, the decommissioned steelworks. The steel plant closed in 1992 and caused massive unemployment in the town.
The town is the home of Strathclyde Park which has the biggest Fun Park in Scotland and is infamous for gay encounters which the police are trying to stop.
Motherwell Football Club has its home at Fir Park and Terry Butcher, the ex-England captain became manager during the 2002/03 season - the team are now managed by Maurice Malpas.
James Keir Hardie (1856 - 1915) one of the founders of the modern Labour Party is a Motherwell man. Home Secretary, The Right Honourable Dr. John Reid was formerly the Member of Parliament for Motherwell North but now represents a neighbouring constituency.
The town and its surrounding villages have a large Catholic population and Carfin Grotto was built in the 1920's. It hoped for a visit from Pope John Paul II in 1982 but received a helicopter flypast. The local Roman Catholic high school Our Lady's High was the biggest school in Britain in the early 1970's.
The Motherwell station is the penultimate station on the West Coast Main Line before Glasgow.
I moved over here only three years ago and I am already talking like I have lived here for a good couple of years. The folk who stay in 'The Well' are decent, with a good sense of humour and willing to have a chat about anything mundane enough to moan about. Good place to live and they still keep building houses. Don't know if it is as cool as Big John and Maid Marian and all that.

Fry's Chocolate - Joseph Fry opened a sweet shop in Small Street, Bristol in 1756. The business was so successful that chocolate factories were built in Broadmead (now the city's main shopping centre) and the company eventually moved to Keynsham. The factory is now owned by Cadbury's, but Fry's chocolates live on.

I live in Northfield, Minnesota. You've already heard about the 10,000 lakes and the Mall of America, but Northfield is famous for being the site of the last bank robbery staged by the Jesse James gang. On Sept. 7, 1876, Jesse James rode into town with his gang (including his brother, Frank) to rob the First National Bank. Unfortunately for the James gang, a local recognized them riding into town and ran into the hardware store yelling, "Get your guns, boys! They're robbing the bank!" So the townspeople armed themselves and some of them were on rooftops, some on the streets - several members of the gang were killed, some were captured and sent to prison (including Frank James) - Jesse got away, but it was the end of the infamous James gang and their reign of terror in the Midwest.

I live near Notts too! Yay Robin Hood hehe. Every time I'm on holiday abroad and a local asks where I'm from, all I have to say is 'Robin Hood country', and they know exactly what I mean.
Class, isn't it?

Almost anywhere you go, mention Orlando and the word association will be theme parks. The Orlando area is without a doubt the theme park capital of the world, but the irony is that while theme parks have made Orlando famous, only one of the major parks is even in the city, and the biggie that started it all is in another county! Orlando, the capital of Orange County, always has been, and still is, so much more.
