Okay, I'm a card-carrying scientist and do not believe in ghosts. But, I'm trying to keep a very open mind. Really, no judgements here from me at all. What I want to know is: On what solid grounds do you believe in ghosts?
I genuinely don't want to offend anyone, but please, refrain from just saying "I dunno, but I guess they're real", or giving references like those Ghost Hunter shows on TV (watch 'em and debunk 'em all the time). I really would like some thoughtful and provoking answers.
I do NOT think you're "nuts" or "mentally challenged" for your belief. Not at all. I'm thinking about seriously investigating some of the more hard-to-explain observations of ghost sightings, and I want to get a spectrum of views from across the board...and world. Yes, I do have views of my own, but I would like to read yours.
Thanks for your answers, and your time! They will be taken seriously. Promise.
(Drop a comment at my 360 page too, if you wish)

I have researched this for years and even joined a psychic circle for a few months to better understand this. I received 'communications' and saw physical mediumship which was very hard to explain.
The UK is full of spiritualist churches and unfortunately lots of bad mediums and gullible people.
I have concluded, in tandem with my reading of the latest research on dark matter and scientific research of the atom that there is something to ghostly phoenomenon. Most seems to be electromagnetic interference or patterns left in the ether of the planet. I remain grounded and balanced in my views but feel fairly confident that we do pass on to another vibration after death and there are possibilities of communication between this physical world and those other dimensions on different vibrations.
Such an interesting subject but keep your feet on the ground and do not believe everything you see!!
If you have a scientific mind I would recommend you read The Field: The Quest for the Secret Force of the Universe, great stuff although I had to read it slowly to understand!!

I visited a place in Minneapolis with my family, The Mill City Museum. This is a place that used to make flour. There was a huge fire that closed the Museum. For years the building was home to the homeless. In 1995 a fire broke out and killed all of the homeless people living there.
When I was there with my family we all sat down to take a photo. It was in the middle of the day on a week day. We set up the camera on a timer and took our spots. We took two photos one with a film camera and another with a digital camera.
Later when we developed both of the images there was a young boy about three standing next to my grandma. He wasn't as clear as the rest of us almost looked like a photo of a reflection.
We believe that this boy was one of the homeless killed in the 1995 fire.
Another reason that I believe in ghosts is because of the physical response that my body has when i am around them. In this case and another time( when my family & I went to the James J. Hill House in St. Paul, MN) when the spirits approach I feel a tightness in my chest. It prevents me from breathing correctly. It feels a bit like and axiety attack, but I an not afraid.
These are just a few examples of why. I have many more experiences but no time to tell them all.

when my grandmother died a few years back, we had a strange thing happen....
In front of my grandmother's house was a lime tree, always FULL of limes, in fact, you could fill a plastic market bag with the ones that were just on the floor. The morning after my grandmother died, a nurse that worked at the corner clinic saw my grandmother picking the limes from the tree (without knowing that she had passed just the night before) as she was driving by looking for parking. My grandmother had suffered for a year with ovarian cancer and the nurse knew this and when she got into the office, she told the other nurses, "oh, Ms. Smith* must be feeling better, I saw her picking the limes from the tree. the other nurses were delighted to hear this. Just then, the doctor walks in and explains that he has bad news, he informed them that my grandmother had passed away last night. Well, the nurse couldn't believe it, she insisted she saw my grandmother outside.
Anyway, when I checked the tree later on that day, ALL the limes were gone!! None on the ground, none in the tree. The tree didn't fruit till about a year later!
If that's not a ghost sighting, then someone has some major explaining to do as to why they were in my grandmother's yard (which is gated and locked) and why they took ALL the limes!!!!
*names have been changed

I believe in ghosts because most of my life I have been exposed to places where many memories have happened. Therefore I dont believe that the ghosts are the persons themselves but more of an imprint of the emotions from the time. Also; for 7 out of the 9 years that I lived in our old house I felt something was following me everytime I approached the stairs.
There were also a few occurences with the upstairs doors, and my uniform shoes going from straight forward to a perfect 45 degree angle.
Im glad that you are still open to others views.

Yes I believe in ghosts. When my g/f's father-in-law passed away (in her living room from a heart attack, we were both present trying to resuscitate him) he came around for a while. He had been buried with a coffee mug that I had given him. For a while he would mess with my coffee pot. Once he turned on the TV in my bedroom. I'm sure you could try and debunk all of this, but keep in mind, I checked every option out regarding all instances, and I am a very educated woman. My husbands deceased grandmother likes to turn on a certain locket i have, on her birthday. I know you will think I'm nuts when i say this, but I don't care I don't know you, but I have the 7th sense, so maybe that is why they contact me more than others. That's another issue so I won't get into that. I know what your thinking, most scientific people think they know it all, however, without experiencing what people like myself have, they couldn't possibly. I hope, as you said, you truly do have an open mind, for if you do, you will be able to get much more out of life than you ever dreamed!

Actually I have seen them unfortunately. If I had my way at all I wouldn't seen them in the first place. About 10 years ago I lived with my grandmother in a house that stuff moved by themselves, lost keys appeared in in the fridge. Once my alarm clock (flew or was throw) from the night stand, and this happened in front of me. Then my grandmother started to claim that she saw a man near our bathroom, I did not believe at first, but a few days later I saw someone standing behind me as I was looking in the bathroom mirror. I thought that someone have broke in but there was nothing as I turn around. We left that house that very day. I remember that a lot of more stuff happened, but then it would be to long to write down. If this have never happened, I would have been the first to tell you that there is no ghosts. The only I can tell you now, is that there is a lot of unexplained things whatever people liked or not.

Hey nice comments. i personally have had some strange things happen and even seen things my mind just cant explain. nothing would make me happier then for someone such as yourself to prove to ME that these things can be explained. i dont even watch those shows mentioned...i just cant credit them lol a little hypocritacal i know. also i dont know if im over sensitive but i can sometimes feel changes in the air and get different fibes from different rooms. the biggest arguement for me is my gf. she gets scared really easy so when she moved in with me i didnt mention anything i had seen in the past but in the first week she could tell me about anything i had seen while living in that home. well by now i may sound crazy but i know what ive seen or heard or felt so anyone who wasnt there to see it for themselves cant judge me.
if ghosts didnt excist why have they been reported throughout the world thoughout history....?

A couple of years ago me and my younger brother and sister lived with my godmother whose 7 year old kid had died a while ago,one day when i got out of school and came home to take a nap before going to pick up my siblings from after school care,i felt a small hand touch my back and yo the feeling was so real that i turned around expecting to c my younger sister or brother home already BUT NO ONE WAS THERE so i got the h*ll out of the house quick!! and went to pick up my siblings early just to have some company.
P.S-the world is a peculiar place..we don't even know why we are here,so why can't there be an after life?or alien's or whatever?''we don't even know why we are here''.

I really didn't believe in spirits until three days before I found out my grandfather died, I woke up for some unknown reason in the middle of the night and seen a shadow of a man at the end of my bed wearing a suit and a fedora hat, and I wasn't scared and I just knew it was my grandfather. At this time I need to let you know my grandfather had sleep apnia. When I went home to help with the arrangements, I asked my grandma if grandpa had stopped breathing 3 days before and she said yes he did, and she had a hard time waking him up. So I asked her when grandpa was younger did he wear fedora's. She said yes he did. And that's when I started believing in spirits.
