I do remember Brazil losing to France in 1998 World Cup. I think Brazil could have done better this year.

It's naive to write off a team such as Brazil, who have such a proven record of producing consistently great footballers. This time around there seemed to be many problems. They were ill prepared with most of their warm up matches more like exhibition matches to those who attended open training sessions. Management must take responsibility for this as they were preparing to defend the world cup, not traveling around to show fans their individual tricks and skills. When the time came for them to play, not enough work was done to turn those brilliant individual skills into a cohesive team performance. They seemed flat and unfit. Ronaldo was back from recent knee surgery which impeded his ability to train and reach peak fitness, some players are up there in the "getting a bit old" bracket and also bad coaching decisions also contributed to the lack luster performance they displayed in this WC. They seemed a little complacent almost as if they did not have the confidence that they could defend successfully the title this time. But they will return to form and dazzle us again..This is Brazil and they will not lay low for long.

Well, the Aussies as is their wont will play hard, that's not open to discussion! A few players play may still call the cards or the shots like Clarke, Chris Rogers (Surprise), Faulkner, Haddin, Pattinson, Siddle, Lyon & Doherty. At times England could be very vulnerable to the colorful Aussie side but that's it, I worry a lot about the Aussie batting, a strength for a long time now. The bowling was always promising, a nice crop of fast bowlers being available like Jackson Bird, Hastings, Kane Richardson all with some good pace & movement. However, the promising batters haven't come through, Khwaja not in favor, Cowan promising but not entirely reliable, Warner only known for pulling the rabbit out of the hat & Maxwell untested at this level. Yea, England surely are the outright favorites, its only a matter of time whether the Aussies capitulate in the first test or not! That will send shivers down their necks & if they're down 3-0, then the Ashes urn comes back to old blighty

Their strength is always the creative attacking players and, when they have successful teams, it is because the more defensive players are there and at their peak - Dunga, Cafu in his prime and so on.

This time around, their attacking full backs were too old, and their centre forward still had the intelligence to create chances against lesser opposition, but lacked the pace and power to dominate a good side.

Add to that, the fact that the coach ignored Ronaldinho's World Player of the Year form and restricted him in a manner that Barcelona never do and the doubts crept in. For me, they played without enjoyment or confidence - maybe destabalised by the coach's inability to choose his recognised first XI before the tournament.

Or more likely, maybe we're just all blinded by the rehearsed and edited Nike advertisements and Brazil simply aren't as good as we all think they are?

What happend is that they took things for granted like they always do that's just them
they tought they were gonna get pass france
playing the no good gamestyle that they've been playing they're never gonna get by no 1
like that..All the games they played it seem
like they didn't have the love n passion for the game like others teams have shown..
n for the person said it was the coach's fault
let me tell u that coach's can only coach they can play so there's for
is the players responsibilty to get there *** out there n play if they didn't play the way they were suppose to play oh well look what at happens....

What do you mean "I think Brazil could have done better this year." they were poisoned hello. sure they could've done better but you can't compare it to a year when they were poisoned. they weren't playing at all, except for Ronaldinho and that was the only match he was doing something in.
