i have worked at my current job for a year and a half and have become really good friends with my boss. my whole family likes him and we like his family too. he decided to buy us a puppy for no reason. should we accept it? it's very expensive.

Well it does seem odd that he randomly gave you a puppy, but if he knows you and your family, and if he is a nice guy and doesn't try anything with you, then yea I think it's ok to accept the gift..
But if you feel really uncomfortable about it, then you shouldn't accept it, plus you don't want your co-workers to feel like your being favored.

The gift is very unusual. Unless you are prepared to properly care for and be responsible for a pet you should refuse by all means. A live pet is a tremendous responsibility. More than that it may be a good idea to not accept so as to keep the relationship in the same manner as before.

Yeah, you are probably prett safe as long as his next gift isn't a car or underwear or something.
