I completely agree with your decision. I kept mine for the same reason. When I was a kid my name was different than the rest of my family's. It's not a good feeling. So knowing that last name is probably NOT your favorite right now, I think you did a good thing!

Yes, it is common. I decided to keep my married name. But when I got married I kept my maiden name and made it my middle name. So no matter what it is still a part of my name. Keep the married name so that your child will feel comfortable and it won't confuse the school system and others.

I believe it is very common. I've actually never known anyone who takes back their maiden name-the closest to it was a woman who never changed her name when she got married. I personally think its just as well to keep your married name because it will match your daughters.

I got a divorce after 32 years YEAH!!! Since my children are adults and have their own last names from their father, I changed mine as so as possible. I took my maiden name back.
I did not want my name connected to the a**hole anymore. My children know I am their mother and that is enough.

I went back to my maiden name because I was seperated when I was pregnant/gave birth to my son... so I gave him my maiden name as his last name. So he has my maiden name as his last name. Didn't want to keep the ex's last name.... got divorced when my son was 4 months old.

I had some personal reasons for not changing my name after divorce but I also wanted my children's name to match mine. Helps with documents. I did remarry and kept my children's name for business but attached my second husbands name for personal. And then when I divorced him it was easier to detach his name. And then I just gave up. I don't think I could get another name on the marriage license, not enough room. Peace.

Yea, this is what I chose to do also. The thing is that I never stopped using my maiden name it was placed on my driver's license as a middle name. So I never gave up my identity actually.

I think it depends on how you, yourself, feel about it. If it's not a big deal, might as well keep it cuz it's a pain in the rear to change a name. I personally would not keep his name, divorce is never pretty, and I wouldn't be caught dead using my ex's name. Not all women feel this way, tho.

Go back to your maiden name. That will just make your ex mad and prove you want or need nothing from him.

I took back my maiden name not because of spite but because it gave me my own identity as to who I really am.
