I'm going into high school in a little bit, and I need to choose something for an athletic credit. I can't be in gym, and so I think I'm going to be in dance, but I don't know if I should choose ballet, jazz, or tap. Could someone give me the pros, cons and some information on the genres? Thanks.

As a recent high school graduate, I'll choose either ballet or jazz. Tap is a little complicated, but if that's your kind of thing, then go for it. Ballet is a more laid back thing to do,but takes alot of time and patience. When you say jazz, do you mean jazz band? If yes, then that's something fun to do. But like ballet, it'll take some work.

Happy for you dear.
Ballet is the basic of all kinds of dances, so if you take it you'll definitely gain a lot but, as they say no pain no gain. The discipline is really high but the results are awesome.
Jazz is something like ballet, they have a lot in common but jazz as an edge, which is sharpness. Muscle stress is more here because of the fast and sharp movements.
Tap, well you need a very strong set of legs and feet.
Hope I helped you.

Ballet is the core discipline for any kind of dancing. If you master ballet ( correctly speaking, classical dance) you can pick up tap and jazz really easily. Plus, tap dancing requires a certain manner of performance which looks very relaxed, almost like you are walking, not dancing, and for core muscles, not streightened up with ballet excercise, it might end up in an injury. Ballet will make your body strong and graceful, will give you a beautiful posture and a sense of confidence.

Ballet takes lots of athletic ability (as do the others) and lots of dicipline. The dance is done primarily through control of movement and its generally performed to classical music. Jazz is more upbeat and is stylized to the choreopgrapher. Its smooth movement and can be performed to any kind of music. Tap is very upbeat and requires lots of leg stength. I would say there is more cardio in tap than anything. My recommendation is jazz. Its the most versatile and definately more fun for a teenage girl. I am a jazz dancer so I may be biased...

Okay, most ballet is danced to classical and the like. Jazz, of course, is danced to jazz music, and tap can be pretty much whatever. Pick a style of music that you like - if you can't stand classical, don't do ballet :)

ballet is a good way to start if youre going to be serious about it because it is the base of all dance. but if you're just looking for osmehting cool and fun jazz or tap. I like lyrical the best it's a mix of jazz and ballet so I'd pick one of those, but it's your choice.

ballet, jazz or tap could work depending on what you're comfortable with.
Jazz dance has a variety of moves and ballet does also with lots of intensity and tap; well its tap.

Of those you listed:
Ballet is the strictest and most classic discipline;
Jazz is the most flowing; and
Tap is my favorite. :)

All of them have their strong points, no pun intended. All of them are valuable!

Ballet will improve your posture, your turnouts, your turns, and your core.

Jazz, to some, is a catch-all phrase, encompassing everything from Fosse to character work to modern, to an extent. It is quite expressive.

Tap is FUN. It can be low-key soft-shoe or high-energy!
