There have already been numerous reports of gay athletes who told their story after their careers ended. After all, by "coming out" while being a pro athlete the athlete would stand to lose everything, in some cases. Tennis' Amarie Mauresmo, WNBA's Sheryl Swoopes, former NFL player, Esera Tualo admitted he was/and is gay, Former NFL player Roy Simmons, David Kopay ex-footballer(NFL) admitted he is gay, Billy Bean, of the MLB outted himself, Billie Jean King, Matina Navratilova, Mr. Olympia&Mr Universe(1983) Bob Paris, decathlete Tom Waddell, MLB umpire Dave Pallone, Olympic swimmer Bruce Hayes---he won gold in 1984, Olympic Diver Greg Louganis outted himself, Ian Roberts the Australian rugby superstar admitted he was gay in the mid 90's and his popularity and bankroll increased (via endorsements), LPGA's Muffin Spencer-Devlin,premier ice skaters Rudy Galindo, Brian Orser, and,Doug Mattis have all fessed up. We know that there are others. Well, from watching the World Cup, Olympics, and, even high profile track events I can clearly see that the gay population is well represented. This is not to say that there are no gays in football, basketball, and baseball.I know a lot of professional athletes, I work around/ with them on a regular basis (3-5 days a week), some of them are more concerned than others about gays in their sports. The bottom line is that sports is a microcosm of society, so is sexuality, and alternative lifestyles.

I'm sure it already has. Just keep your back to the wall in the showers and trust know one. Being Gay isn't as much of a stigma anymore in pop culture. I don't see anything stopping gay people participating in sports at any level today and in the future.

Yes it will happen and it is already happening. I am pretty sure that Amelie Mauresmo, the number one female tennis player in the world is gay. Also, one of the best trainers in sports is gay.

Dwyane Wade is so not gay. He's married to his high school sweetheart and they have a son together. His spouse is a woman.
