New York (city), the largest city in the United States, the home of the United Nations, and the center of global finance, communications, and business. New York City is unusual among cities because of its high residential density, its extraordinarily diverse population, its hundreds of tall office and apartment buildings, its thriving central business district, its extensive public transportation system, and its more than 400 distinct neighborhoods. The city’s concert houses, museums, galleries, and theaters constitute an ensemble of cultural richness rivaled by few cities. In 2000 the population of the city of New York was 8,008,278; the population of the metropolitan region was 21,199,865.
Located in the southeastern part of New York State just east of northern New Jersey, the city developed at the point where the Hudson and Passaic rivers mingle with the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and Long Island Sound. The harbor consists of the Upper Bay (an arm of the Atlantic Ocean) as well as the East River and the various waterways that border the city. Its harbor is one of the largest and finest in the world and is ice-free in all seasons.
New York has a temperate climate with annual precipitation of 1,200 mm (47 in) per year. The temperature ranges between 41°C (106° F) and –24° C (–11° F), but the Atlantic Ocean tends to moderate weather extremes in the city. It is about the same latitude as Naples, Italy. Although the Dutch founded the city in 1624 and called it Fort Amsterdam and then New Amsterdam, the English captured the settlement in 1664 and renamed it New York, after the Duke of York, who later became James II of England.

I'm not sure of Houston's population since Katrina survivors were bussed there but the number is really up there. I have a question; do you really hate Louisiana or the New Orleanians who moved to BR? This 504(New Orleans) native wants to know.
BTW, Houston is where I live and it's okay for now.

It's an awesome town, and many famous people live
here. I think it is a great place with...
1900 = 8,000
1950 = 10,000
1990 = 15,000
2000 = 18,500
2005 / 2006 = 18,800
Major population loss at September 11, 2001!!!

Population is about 2,200. There are things I like and didslike about where I live. No traffic is a plus. Thirty minutes to get to shopping is a drag.

It's a great city, small but not too small, near other large metro areas (40 min train ride to NYC), plenty of young people because of all the jobs & office buildings, AND the taxes are lower than surrounding states. Can't beat it.

i live in between two cities, i live in brighton michigan and i go to school in the next city over, i honestly dont know the population of either, cuz i haven't lived here that long,but they're small small cities. i lived in san diego. no, i HATE where i live. im moving in four months. to daytona beach, florida, im so excited. where i live is nothing (literally) but white people. there is only one black person in my school. im white, but dont realy get along with other white people, i like diversity, and i dont like preppy style, which is all thats here. so i just got back from vacation in daytona, and i met amazing people, and i love it there, so im moving in a few months.

Less than 70,000. It's a charming LITTLE town where In-N-Out was started! It's quiet, and not such a bad neighborhood despite the wide range of ethnicities. I love my home!

I live in Columbia, Missouri; population: 90,000, and it sucks. I mean it really sucks. It snows in the winter and it's 105 in the summer. I wish I was back in Los Angeles, where I grew up. :(
