The above answers are good and I would follow the advice. But I would also check my copy of the lease....you have yours don't you?...and see if there are any specific requirements to receive the deposits back. If I was the landlord I would take into account how much money it was going to take me to get the property back into renting condition. That would include repairs to drywall, broken appliances, and scratch floors. If my tenant returns the property in good condition I would return the deposit to cover these costs. (I had a neighbor once who painted a room bright orange...I mean REALLY orange....I think he got his deposit back after he repainted the room to a more neutral color) When I was renting I always got my deposit back because I generally left the property in better shape than I found it. I informed the landlords if there were problems and they were good about repairs. I had pretty good relationships with them and asked to make changes before I did them. Maybe I was just lucky. Of course I have heard horrible stories that are 180 degrees different from my own. Good Luck.

Clean your flat, including the windows. Wash everthing down. If there are any holes in the walls patch them. Most places will have any carpeting cleaned before a new tenant moves in. But make sure you vacuum. Just really try to clean it the best you can. Good luck !

Clean it completely. Repair any obvious damage. Don't leave any trash or items that they will need to have hauled away. Make sure you have all of the keys.

It should look the same as it did when you moved in, clean and nothing broken or damaged.
