For some it's because they think that they don't deserve it. If you tell them they are beautiful in their own minds they are ugly.
Plus, it's just that a lot of people don't know what to say when they are given a compliment. What they should say is "Thank you" but instead they get embarrassed and deny the compliment.

Some people are embarrassed by compliments for some reason. All they have to do is say "Thank you."

insecurity is a major factor....many dont see themselves that way..only poeple who truely love theirselves can take a compliment....

I think the main reason is lack of self-esteem.
