I know we were at war, but do you think we were justified with using an A bomb. A bomb which I personally think shouldn't ever be used. It not only is like a form of torture, giving cancer and melting skin off little children it destroys our earth

I dont. Look at the facts, the Emperor had called a meeting of his remaining generals just days before to prepare for a surrender. Japans industrial might was dead, they could barely feed themselves, let alone make anything.

Face it, Hiroshima was the worlds largest open-air weapons testing

Yes, the use of the Atomic Bomb on Japan was necessary. The first bombing, on a mostly military target, was not enough. Japan refused to surrender, and the Japanese Military tired to cover up the bombing. So a second bomb drop was necessary.

The War against Japan was the worst war that the US has ever been involved in. The Germans were good fighters, and tough to beat, but they were not fanatics. Japanese soldiers were fanatical fighters. They would fight for every inch, and fight to the last man. They refused to surrender, and were rarely taken prisoner. Once a Japanese Island was taken some of the soldiers would try to turn guerilla, the Code of Bushido would not let the Japanese quit. They could not even understand the concept of surrender, and thought that the soldiers that surrendered to them were without honor; which explains the March to Bataan. The Marines had to cover every square inch of the island to defeat the Japanese. On one Island the civilians preferred to jump off the cliffs to their death rather than surrender. The closer the Marines, and their allies, got to Japan, the worse the fighting. Taking the Islands of Japan would be a bloodbath on both sides. The use of the nuclear bombs actually saved lives on both sides. Yes, it saved more American lives than Japanese, but the Japanese lost a lot less people (civilians and soldiers) than if Japan had to be invaded.

That’s the historical reason. It was a hard decision to make, but a necessary one. Not just to end the war, but to save lives on both sides.

The second reason for deploying nuclear weapons was the horror factor. It is cruel to say, but the bomb had to be used in order for it not to be used again. The horror of the casualties, the effects on the buildings and the people had to be seen to be believed. Scientists and the military had tested the atomic bomb, but not on people, and not on a city. The horror of the bomb had to be seen in a real live use. That horror turned Japan into a government that refused to ever go to war again, unless it was to defend Japan itself. That’s why their military forces doesn’t call themselves an Army or Navy; the Japanese refer to their military only as the Self Defense Forces.

Thanks to the movie camera all the world could see what devastation a nuclear bomb could do. Because of that every country that developed the atomic bomb knew the Atomic Horror. That is the main reason why the A-Bomb has never been used again. You can blow up ships, knock down houses, and as many dummies as you want; but they will never match an actual use.

The use of the atomic bomb, in a limited fashion, against Japan is the biggest factor that has saved the world from World War Three.

Those two bombs actually saved both American and Japanese lives. To end the war with conventional weapons would have prolonged the war and caused much more human suffering and loss of live. The fact that we used the "A" bomb really seems to bother a lot of people. Yet no much though is given to the Incendiary Bombs used (and perfected ) by the British. They worked amazingly well but at such a destructive cost in lives and property.

Japan tested their Atomic Bomb 3 days after Hiroshima on an island off the coast of Korea!

They had plans to put one on a sub in San Fransisco bay and bomb the US!

We just got to them first!

Do you think Japan was justified in attacking us first. I would like to think that the A bomb was a necessary evil. It should be called the American bomb considering we were the only ones with enough balls to use it and hopefully lead by example and not do it again. It established us as a world power and the leaders of the free world.

Yes, it was justified.
It ended World War II and even though the destruction was horrific, it had the effect of avoiding any more mass destruction as would have occurred if Japan had been allowed to continue it's fateful quest to destroy the United States and on to conquer the world.
So, as a result of Truman's decision to drop the Atom bombs, first on Hiroshima and then the second one on Nagasaki, many thousands of lives (American AND Japanese) were actually saved.

Although its true THOUSANDS of innocent civilians died. We had no other choice and as dumb as this might sound Dropping that Bomb actually saved more lives than it probably took. Japan was prepared to fight to the very last man. If we had to send troops into Main land Japan the fighting would have been FIERCE to say the least and the war might have drug on for alot longer than it did.

We should have just sent you and your friends and relatives over there to fight the Japaneses instead. You all would have been killed along with hundreds of thousands more Americans and Japaneses but we would not have had to use the bomb. Thank God people like you can't get elected and are not responsible for defending our country and protecting Americans..

The fire bombs of Tokyo killed more people in a more painful manner then the Hydrogen bombs So I guess I think all bombs suck… but so does getting your head cut off by a swords or tossing babies on to bayonets. Evil begets evil. So which is the lesser evil?

They could have dropped it a few miles away from Hiroshima. The Japs would have got the message and surrendered.

So America was not justified in doing so.
