They do well on anything from Papertowels to ReptiBark. Caution should be used though as all amphibians, have permiable skins. Be aware of your subtrates ingredients as some may seem practical may contain harmfull chemicals. Potting soils are a good example, plenty contain insectcides and other ingredients that could prove deadly to your amphibian.
I keep my toadin a 20 gal long aquarium with Repibark as subtrate, there is also some cypress multch around his water bowl to help absorb water when he gets in and does whatever he does to get it everywhere the next morning. Apart from a log for him to hide under there is nothing else in the terrarium.
Cane Toads can be fed a variety of foods, Crickets, Superworms mealworms, waxworms etc.

You could always set upaterrarium with some moist soil (not wet), if you add some dried leaves, and maybe a moist piece of wood, it would feel at home. Toads eat insects, so if you feed it any type of flying insetcs, they will like that, grasshoppers and crickets are the best, even if they are store bought. They also eat worms, so those are easy to get tasty treats. A water dish would be a good idea, thye dont like to be in water like frogs, but if you give them the option, they may use it.

I hope that helps, Good luck!

If it is a cane toad, you can feed it cat food. If it is a toad native to North America, I'd feed it meal worms, which you can get at bait stores and pet shops. Also, give them a pan of water to sit in; That's how they drink.

Be sure to wash your hands after handling it, and never NEVER put it in your mouth or allow another pet to bite it. All toads have poison glands that protect them from attack (those big puffy areas behind the eyes). However, It isn't dangerous if you are careful.

They eat all sorts of insects and invertibrates - try putting earthworms in there too. As they're cold blooded they'll like a warm spot, but not too hot! Give him a shallow dish of water, because although they don't swim they like damp environments. However - a lot of toads are poisonous, so wash your hands after handling him.

You could find a book on reptiles and amphibians in a library if you want to know more about how to look after him - but you should let him go back to the wild soon, before he gets too used to humans.

Well, Nikki, if you want to keep him then he'll like to eat crickets, mealworms and such.

Fresh clean water should always be available in the form of a shallow bowl for soaking. Get a spray bottle and lightly mist the air daily to keep it moist.

You should get him a 10 gallon aquarium with a screen lid so he gets plenty of air but cannot hop out.

If you get tired of him then take him to a little creek and let him go.

You should add some photos of the toad to your Yahoo 360 page. A girl who likes toads. Cool.

It's best if you put him in a glass tank. With the top closed. It's best to get a tank big enought for the toad to hop. Or whatever. Fill The tank with moist dirt. And buy a small pond for him in the tank.

Do nothing except let the toad go. He will die if you don't.Don't cage the poor thing! Please don't handle it unless you wet your hands first as the oils in human skin will burn its skin, and be painful for it. Please release it, either into a garden or a wooded area.Toads eat insects, grubs, slugs, worms, and other invertebrates like other amphibians do.Foods which you will probably not be able to find. Toads are nocturnal creatures and like to rest during the day by hiding under things. Be kind, do whats right for it,release it before its too late. Its cruel to keep it caged or boxed.DO NOT PUT THE TOAD IN TAP WATER YOU WILL BURN IT ALIVE. PEOPLE PLEASE EDUCATE YOURSELVES!! TOADS ONLY GO INTO PONDS TO BREED!!

Live crickets are good; go to Walmart or a pet store and purchase special pellets for toads and frogs. Make sure it had clean, fresh water.

Oriental fire bellied toads are hardy little toads that are suitable for beginners. They are not difficult to care for, although they do take a fair amount of work to maintain. Native to southern and southeastern Asia, they are noted for their bright green and black coloration on their backs, and brilliant orange and black on their underside. These bright colors serve as a warning to predators (as in "I'm toxic!").
