Old habits die hard, some people can't forget the old ways. I'm asian and there isn't much against us except twinke and the fact that they think all Asians are either Chinese or Japanese

I am white and I have lived in 2 different places that would be consider ghettos for about 6 years. I have been called white boy more than once in a not so friendly manner. I have walked in all black buisnesses and have been treated very coldly. I have smiled and went out of my why to be friendly just to get scowls. I couple of times I have had people try to run over me when i was in a walk zone, and then laugh when i was spooked. Sometimes a clerk wont even look me in the eye, but will look another african american in the eye. My wife is hispanic and she notices many African americans treat her different when she is with me, and she notices how cold many tend to be towards me.

Ive seen a lot of people who are so scared of not being 'politically correct'. I do not see much racism today but people are just nervous and scared they will say or do the wrong thing. This reminds me of the movie Guess Who. I think its just awkward. Im sorry your dad doesnt approve. Are you sure its color though? Perhaps he sees some bad qualities in the boy or he was raised in a bad family and your dad just wants to protect you. Anyway I hope it works out.

I live in Louisiana and racism is alive and well here, except that it is mostly the blacks who hate the white people. It's mostly with the black people who try to act like thugs. A lot of them are decent and treat most races the same, but like I said before, a lot of blacks don't like whites just because they are white, no other reason.

To be honest with you, I think your dad just wants to protect his "little girl".
From personal conversations with my dad, who always supported my choices, his worries laid in the society and not necessarily in the "mixed" couple. He was afraid, should have I decided to date a person of a different race, that society would have made our lives pretty much segregated.
Years and years later I see his point of view. I am a Caucasian living in a Black Country and believe it or not, sometime, because of my skin, I am discriminated as much as a black person in a white community...GIven the opportunity human beings can be very cruel.
Dad loves us very much and from my experience sometime Dad does not know how to show his love , but by "barking"...
Be gentle with him...

I continue to be unpleasantly surprised by all the really racist people who still exist in this world. In this case, you don't have to do what your dad is telling you. It's not for your safety that he doesn't want you with that boy, so you should just hang out with him anyway. Your dad is being stupid. You're your own person with your own values in life. It's easier than it seems to hide a relationship from a parent. I did it three times.

I am Italian and I was dating a Puerto Rican boy and when he left to get me a slice of pizza a bunch of skin heads approached and invited me to some kind of scum bag rally and I said no and to get away from me that I am a proud American Italian they said that is okay cause I have blue eyes instead of brown ones. Again I asked them to leave me alone and when my BF say that I was being harassed and came over to stop it they turned on him. He was a dark skinned PR and they said to me "what is is it like F-ing a Ni-----er? I was so heartbreaking for me to see this happen and not be able to do anything. We just walked away from it. He broke up with me a week later saying that he wanted me to have better. It was one of the saddest days in my life. I really cared for him too. I HATE racism.
