Nah! Only a small mount of our troops are actually abroad fighting, and it is xtremely unlikely that another country would attack us, only terrorists would on home soil. Therefore, we do not need huge army contingent at home anyway.

Well, in 2046, when Scotland is is being bombed by the English because some Perthshire extremists kidnapped some people near the border , the Chinese army will be sending ammunition to support the English, and the Iranian pan-Asian empire will be calling for a ceasefire along with the rest of the world on humanitarian grounds..
The chinese will further be threatening sanctions against the rogue state of France ,as the secret pay masters of the Scots ,with their sinister plans to impose a new Catholic Empire on the World.

The US is so protectionist it is untrue. The UK sees itself as the self declared main sponser of anything American and flies troops everywhere to protect people who often do not want protection, ignores those who do and then lets the terrorists go free in its own homeland. As for the other allies they see all the UK interest going in support of the USA leaving our borders undefended, guess what the UK gets the assylum seekers, drop outs and general dross others dont want .. Where is President Blair now? Yes in the USA getting ready for retirement .. working for Britain? NO! Spreading too thinly .. yes .. the defense Brirtain has (what is left of it) is all overseas. We would be hard pressed to fend off any threat close to home.

Yes, certainly for the UK, Do you know that the old Wembley stadium could accomodate all the soldiers in fighting units in the British Army - that's only 50,000 people. If tere ws a crisis in the UKm the soldiers would have to be repatriated.

We simply dont need an army the size of Americas anymore folks. Think about it, we've only got the Isles to look after, and its pretty tiddly here isnt it?
Frankly, modern warfare has made huge armies irrelevant. Our navy is still one of the worlds finest, and frankly thats all that matters in a defensive position
