I was a little confused by the ending ( anyone who hasnt finished this stop reading now! haha) apparently hal was talking with heywood floyd, but heywood floyd is still alive. And there is a third person, but I cant decide whether it was david bowman pretending to be heywood and hal and another person, or if it was david bowman and hal and heywood floyd, I am just confused, any help?

It seemed to be some sort of copy of Dr. Floyd that would stay with Hal and Dave, forming a trinity of kinds, while the other Dr. Floyd presumably lived out the rest of his life. Clarke never followed up on this, because Dr. Floyd didn't seem to be around in 3001 in any sense.
