Myself, my husband and son finially got to the financial stage were we "finially" were to purchase a house, and put down a good deal of the mortgage, so as to keep further mortgage payments down. We were told our house plot# is 42, and that is how we came to know our house, whist we were waiting for the housing authorities to create a new street name. All our fellow homeowners also were given plot #'s for the beginning, and first few months.
well, my neighbor next door told me that ther was a young couple who pulled out of the deal, last minute and unfortunately were NOT entitled to their £9,000- refund (the £9,000- was paid, because ALL people who also bought a house from/in this newly built development were mandated by law to pay for any "extra luxuries" before even the main deposit was put down. Lucky for us, they had great taste (£9,000 additional great taste that is!) Bottom line, one day, after coming home from being out all day, we (my family) discovered that there were

house numbers on each front doors!!!!!,except ours. One of our close (in locational/range) neighbors was outside and we asked if he knew why OUR home did not get an assigned number, as all the others did-He told us he had no clue (He knew though, but whatever!) It just so happend we are very friendly with one of the main foremen on the jobs, and we asked him, who confirmed the developer is superstitious and has not and will not ever build a #13 house/flat/warehouse, etc. And THAT, as it turns out to ge was the reason the original people changed their minds, and their new £9,000 dent in their bank accounts. I have NEVER in a sextillion years would think that the "13th floor thing" would still carry on to this day!nReally freaky, and we always get confused Pizza Hut delivery people, as well as mailmen/mailwomen, depending on who's assigned on that day-
What they see is house number#11,then one w/a #! (ours), then next house is #17/ We are waiting 2put up our#15 unti we see bossman!

I work in a building with no 13th floor. Whenever I get into the elevator with someone I haven't seen before I ask them to push 13. They go for the button and realize it is not there. Whhaaahhaaa.

Yep, pretty odd that the "13" thing is still so embedded in our culture. I've seen 13th floors missing from buildings in countries all over the western hemisphere. Most recently constructed buildings, however, DO include floor # 13. I wonder if there was some "official date" when the 13th was re-instated.

The reason for it has to do with the Masonic orders, of course. It was on a Friday the 13th that the French attacked and slaughtered the Knights Templar. The Masons (more or less) claim to be the modern decedents of the Templars and naturally refused to include a 13th anything in any structure their members built. This was just a nod of "remembrance" to their esoteric traditions I suppose.

Still...interesting that the tendency to avoid the 13 is so alive and well (on both sides of the Atlantic!)

OK...I give up...what was There?...actually, at one time, any building with 13 floors or more had the 13th floor just identified differently...all 13th floor buildings that were apartments named the 13th floor as a Penthouse to avoid worrying those that were concerned about the number 13...all those that were 14 floors or more named the 13th floor 14...hence a 14 floor building had a top floor of 15....the penthouse thing gained a class of distinction and continues today

i think of it extremely is a western issue. 13 is considered unlucky there are some theories approximately this. In asia it extremely isn't any longer the case. In South Korea many homes have not got a 4th floor. something with regard to the huge style 4 finding corresponding to the chinese language image for dying. additionally superstition. In some homes the flooring will study a million,2,3,F,5,6. sometimes it would be a million,2,3,5,6 ... the two way 13 or 4 or in spite of it extremely is variety of stupid. in spite of in case you do no longer call the floor 4 or 13 it continues to be the thirteenth or the 4th from the floor.

ummm,yeah i remember.....
my turn to tell a pointless story:

so this one time i was chasing these goats in mexico and they took a sharp right and scrambled up this really rocky hill.
of course I went after them but they were just so fast, and much more agile on the rocks.
On my way up I slipped and bumped my head....next thing i know i wake up with a goat licking my cheek.
I grabbed the goat with a quickness and rode that little FUCI< all the way back up to the states.....where i sold it to a petting zoo who in turn sold it to a hot dog factory......
