No!!!! Never clean a coin. It'll ruin its value.
The dirt can be washed off, but don't scrub, and don't use chemicals.

Hi. I am a coin dealer in the Midwest, and here's the correct answer. If your Indian Cent just has some normal soil, the most you would want to do is run some clean warm water over it and wipe it gently with a soft cloth. Otherwise, don't clean it. Do NOT use coke, ketchup, taco sauce, vinegar, or any other such substance;it will ruin the coin. It is generally not a good idea to clean a coin, as it will almost always reduce if not ruin any collectibility and value it might have...however in the case of your particular coin, it is probably worth no more than between $2-$5 in average used condition so you aren't risking much by trying to remove the soil.
Hope this helped.

When you clean a coin, it's obvious to numismatists (coin collectors) and is labled a "cleaned" coin. So don't use any solvents on it. If you are willing to take the chance on cleaning it but don't want that "cleaned" look, try rubbing it gently with a little olive oil and a cotton cloth. Sometimes that will get a coin looking better without it looking "cleaned," but not always.

I wouldn't clean it, but if you must, use lemon juice. It works fabulously.
