The belt is still attached to the alternator, however, it looks like one of the pulley's broke off, thus causeing the loose belt. When I asked Kragen Auto Parts, they had NO idea what the problem was. HELP!

Well, it sounds like you need a new pully. In the old, days the alternator had it's own belt. But now everything runs off the serpintine belt. I am going to assume that you have this set up. There is a tension pully and the main drive pully. Normally the problem is with the tension pully. This pully bolts on to the motor housing. Try calling a dealer. They should be able to help you. They e the part in stock!

its not a mount. ask for a belt tensioner. or it could even be the idler pulley. some tensioners have a 1/2 inch square usually for insertion of a ratchet so you can release the tension on the belt. some just have a bolt on the pulley. if the pulley flops back and forth easily, its bad. usually when the idler pulley is bad it gets noisy and will wobble badly as well. most of the time its the tensioner though.

Usually, an alternator is mounted on an adjustable mount.....simply loosen the bolt, pull on the alternator (should have the adjustable mount, and a fixed mount only, so it will pivot) until the belt is tight, and then tighten the bolt back up.

I don't know about your missing pulley, though.....

I can,t say without seeing the car of course but the way you describe it sounds like maybe you have a bad water pump or an idler/tensioner bad. Sometimes it can be hard to see because of where it is located but I have seen this happen often. Take it somewhere and have them do thorough check of the problem.
