A geodesic dome house might be about the only thing. You still need to sub-out a lot of the work. Plans are available online.

It really depends on where you live, many things can effect cost: zoning laws, which resources for building materials are located closest to you, etc. There are log cabins, straw bale, adobe,rammed earth,many, many choices! I even have seen left over building materials listed on FreeCycle! Check this out

Look into Insulated Concrete Forms (ICF) if you are planning on doing it yourself. They are incredible for the exterior frame of your house. From there, do what you can yourself, and contract the rest out.

shotcrete domes are strong and inexpensive and cover a lot of ground .
a straw bale house, like adobe.
ramed earth.
fabric in tension
anything can be used for housing, it's the planning and execution that matter, what do you have in mind?
check your local bulding codes first! or you'll have a big mess!

A timber kit house. Buy the timber, build the panels itself then erect in on a concrete base.
