Wy-eld seem to given you the best answer so far; which is have faith in Jesus Christ. If you have faith and believe in Jesus, He will lead you and guide you to do the things you ought to do.
Luke 10:42-But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.
This scripture refers to a story in the Bible of when Jesus visited the a house where two women were living, Mary and Martha; and if my memory serves me right there were a few others there as well. But the thing is when Jesus came by, Martha treated Jesus like a celebrity (which in that time he pretty much was), trying to give Him a feast, make sure he's comfortable ect. But Mary on the other hand wasnt concerned with those things, she chose to sitdown and listen to what Jesus had to say. When Martha and some others tried to get on Mary about not helping them, Jesus responded "But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her."(Luke 10:42)
The reason is becuase what was more needful or more important to God is that they hear what God has to say not all the other stuff Martha was trying to have done. Because once you learn what God says and thinks about things, again he will lead you to do the things that you ought. He will lead you to get you life together, lead you to better your life, and lead you toward a Godly life; which will benifit you or anybody that takes God's word to heart.

I would like to think its something complex, but I doubt it. I haven't had the perfect life, but my current philosophy has worked rather well so far. Here is my credo in no particular order:
1. Empty whats full
2. Fill whats empty
3. Scratch where it itches
4. If its wet and not yours, then don't touch it.
5. Take a walk
6. Read a good book
7. Try not to get fat
8. Make others happy and respect not only the values of other people but of every nation in the world.
9. One good friend is more than most people have
10. Providing temporary relief to nymphomaniacs is a necessary skill.

When you think that your about to die, you will find yourself on an escalator. You might not notice but it is gradually moving up. The thing to remember is that if it gets you to the top, well then, your life is over and your going to have to make different plans. Just remember to jump off well before you get to the top and you will be able to enjoy some more life. Also, know that there is likely to be a rather personable and engaging angel that will try to interest you in a conversation to divert your attention from jumping off. Just remember to jump. Most of the problems that we encounter in life can be solved by jumping.

Despite popular belief, the single most important thing you need to know that will get you through life is Jesus Christ and His Father God.
Do you know them? Do you believe in the Lord Jesus Christ that He died on the cross for your sins? Do you accept the Lord Jesus Christ as your personal Lord and Savior? Do you believe that Jesus' Heavenly Father not only created Jesus but He also created all humans, animals and nature itself? If you don't know them, I suggest you Google Jack Van Impe Ministries to find out more about them. You won't be sorry that you know them!
Good luck to you and remember God loves you and so do I!

Assuming that you currently possess, or will possess a decent education, the single most important skill that you can possess and continue to improve is your ability to communicate.

Educate yourself as much as possible, so you know the differences between what is good and bad and right and wrong. Knowledge is power, no one can take that away from you.
