You could try some of the labryinth fish (Gouramies). These include many that are fairly docile (Pearl, Snakeskin, Sunset, Dwarf, Kissing, Giant gouramies, etc). The Siamese fighting fish (Betta) belongs to this family as well, but you can only have 1 male Betta in a tank at a time, and you can't keep male and female Bettas together. By contrast most of the other Gouramies aren't as territorial and can be kept together.
Just don't get a Paradise fish (also in this family). While very attractive with it's red, blue and orange scales - these are very aggressive.

Bala sharks are best kept in schools. They are cool to watch swim together. Gourami's are cool, they have all kinds but they seem to be territorial and maybe one per tank is good. The polka-dot catfish is another that like to be kept in larger numbers. They are shiny with long whiskers. good luck! If you are looking for interesting behavior try African cichlids. I have the species Mbuna and they will have to be kept in a tank to themselves. They do require hard water...I just add baking soda to the water and use pH test strips to make sure the water stays hard.

what percentage goldfish do you've. a 10 gallon is only too small for them. you may have a million hardship-free goldfish (max length 30cm) in a fifty 5 gallon or 4 fancy goldfish. Bettas want heated water compared to goldfish so placed him contained in the ten gallon and upload some kuhlis or a pair of platies.
