Grin and bear it and know that karma is a bee-yotch. I hated my boss with a fiery passion - he threw me under the bus for something that was 100% his fault, screamed at me, called me on a Friday night at 8 pm to fix his screw up when he knew that I was already under a tremendous amount of personal and job stress and then never apologized. I didn't disguise my dislike of him. But 3 months later, he got laid off and now 6 months after that, he's still unemployed and came crawling back here to try to get work as a consultant. My new boss didn't even call the idiot back.

A whole month-what happened to a 2 week notice? You need to leave the job as soon as possible. Life is to short for such stress.

Every time you talk to him, think of someone else punching him.
You also need to decide whether it is both worthwhile to speak to him, or whether speaking to him would cause flare ups and arguments. It may be useful if you were to do this to speak to others- if you have the back up of several people he may back down more easily than you alone. Indeed he may believe instead it is personal.
Similarly, if your hate is that bad, consider a transfer to another department or even job. Is he a department or total boss? It's not worth compromising your work for one person.

Following through will be a sure recipe for you coming out on the long term short end. You'll be terminated and he'll have the option of charging you for the assault. That will add insult to injury since then you'll have to make repeated visits in court as the accused, and still have to tolerate whatever facial expressions he gives, etc. So the answer is: Seek other employment opportunities.

"How do I stop myself from punching my boss in the face every time he speaks?"
superbooks.org ANSWERS:
Well, these are some things that can stop you from blowing up at your boss:
Picture yourself in jail and then picture y ourself being beat up by seven inmates who simply do not like the way that you breathe.
Picture yourself at trial , after punching your boss , and picture the judge telling you that even though this is your first offense , you are going to get a year in jail for being so explosive.
Picture yourself out of a job because you lose your temper too easily.
Just think of all the bad and horrible things that will DEFINITELY happen to you if you blow up at your boss and then remember that
YOU HAVE THE POWER to change your emotions, and you have the abiliity to control your emotions all you need to do is to
WANT to do it.
Picture yourself as a mature individual who knows that he can control his temper and who can let the bosses words go in one ear and out the other so that it doesn't bother you at all.
Picture yourself being the laughing stock of your block because you lost your job just because you couldn't control your temper .
Picture losing your wife and kids because they don't want to be around someone who is so explosive.
Picture any and all of those things BEFORE you explode and perhaps this might make you be a calmer person than you are at this moment.
Picture ANYTHING that will make you laugh ..or change your emotion at the moment.
Picture your boss riding a bike in his underwear and getting caught on a tree limb then floating in the air for a hundred miles...
Picture whatever makes you laugh and picture whatever makes you smile
and you can controll your temper that way .

Either find a new job, take anger management, or you will have to learn to enjoy a much worse fate behind bars.

Just think of the consequences if you do blow up. Wait until the day you leave then read him his fortune.
