Sounds as per the suggestion from another answer to another similar question, is a worn out clutch that doesn't grab very well, causing there to be little to no friction to move the car. Alternatively, if you floor it but do not see or hear a rise in engine speed when the clutch is also depressed, it could mean an overly stretched throttle cable. I'm not too sure about this one, but it may also be a bad throttle position sensor, although I never had to replace one, so I'm not completely sure of the symptoms of a bad one. I hope this helps,

If you don't have a mechanic that normally works on your car and knows what maintenance it has received in the past, then the repair shop you bring the car to will start from scratch. That means they will go over all the basic maintenance items like fluids and filters and tune up items like spark plugs and wires. If your yellow check engine light has been coming on, they will read out your computer error codes with a code scanner. They can also monitor the engine parameters on the scanner to see if it's running right. Sometimes your computer will automatically limit the performance of your engine when you've got tune up, emissions or other fundamental problems with your car.

Whole bunch of things possible, try to re-post the same question, but we need more details: what model, what engine, when the problem happens, etc. You'll get more correct answer this way.

It's that weak 4 cylinder you have under the hood. Get a new car if you want to go fast.

fuel filter would be a good place to start, might have been some dirt in that last gas station you visited, did it start to happen after you gassed up?

depending on how new or old the car is, it may not be worth putting the money into it to find out what's wrong. it may be cheaper just to buy a new one
